Go Back Reverse Incremental Backup

A Reverse Incremental backup mode works by storing on each execution only the detected differences between the current virtual machine state and a full and reversing the current full changes to the previous backup. As a result, as shown in the picture below, the latest backup is always a synthetic full while all other older backup are differential:

Once the maximum retention value has been reached, VSquare will delete older backups from disk and keep on updating the last synthetic.

By storing only differences you can greatly reduce the amount of space required for a multiple days retention. Reverse Incremental backups use less space than Differential backup while minimizing the risk of loosing a full backup chain as you always have a full backup as latest.

Reverse Incremental backup is available starting from Enterprise plans.

Differential backup is not available on Free VMware ESXi, regardless of VSquare licensing.
