Go Back Installing VSquare Desktop Agent Service

After downloading the necessary package, you can double click the container exe to start the main installation. After the first part, where you simply select the target installation folder, you will be presented with a VSquare wizard that will guide you trough the configuration.

Before configuring your Desktop Agent installation, VSquare needs associate the agent with your account. Here you are required to login using the same credentials you are currently using to access your account on vsquarebackup.

Instance Category
VSquare will display this agent under a new section of the Manage Datacenter Explorer called VSquare Agents. Under this section it will create different folders that can be used to group machines of the same type. Here you can specify in which folder you would like this agent to be categorized.

VSquare Backup Service
To execute backups, this agent needs to know to which VSquare Backup Service it should announce. Here you can specify your VSquare Service address (it may very well be the same you are using in the Anywhere Administration Console) and the VSquare Instance API Key. An Enterprise level API key is required to connect to the remote VSquare service.

Service Configuration
This is where you can configure the Desktop Agent service port and address. VSquare Backup will connect to this agent using the address and port you specify here. On your first installation, the name is automatically set as your machine name.

Please note that if you are installing Desktop Agent on a virtual machine it is mandatory to set this field identical to the name you've given in VMware or Hyper-V inventories. So, for example, if you have a TEST_LAB machine that you see as 'TEST_LAB - 1.0' under VMware, you should specify 'TEST_LAB - 1.0' as name.

Once all of these steps are completed, the Desktop Agent Service is configured and started. In a few seconds you should be able to do a refresh of your Manage view and find the new agent in your Datacenter Explorer.

If you installed the Desktop Agent on a virtual machine you won't see the additional VSquare Agents section : the agent uses the same virtual machine entry you already see under VMware or Hyper-V.
