Go Back VSquare Backup Service starts and then immediately stops

Symptom
After an unexpected reboot (or crash) of the machine where VSquare is installed, the VSquare Backup Service fails to start or successfully starts only to stop after a few seconds. Windows services console may show a message similar to the following:

The "service name" service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other service or programs

Cause
1. This problem may be caused by a corrupted data file inside the VSquare data folder.
2. This problem may be caused by one or more patch files not being correctly applied after a correct patch download.

Solution to cause 1
To correct this problem, you need to delete the corrupted file causing VSquare to fail at startup. To find the corrupted file proceed as follows:

  • Open a plain text editor like notepad
  • Open, one after another, all the .data files you can find inside the .\Data folder of the VSquare installation.
  • If the file is empty (nothing is written and the editor just dispaly an empty page) delete it.
  • Copy the latest backup of the file from the VSquare automatic data backup you can find in the _backup folder

Once all corrupted files have been restored you should be able to start VSquare Backup Service.

Solution to cause 2
To correct this problem you can apply manually the missing patch files as follows:

  • Go to the __patches folder you will find under the .\Server folder of VSquare
  • Among all the patch files, find a batch file called update.bat
  • Double click the file to start a manual patch copy.
  • If the copy is successful, VSquare service will automatically start
